Where and what to visit while we are Playa Samara - Costa Rica

Hi,

whether I am in the correct place but here goes. My wife and I live in Canada and are already booked for our trip to Playa Samara, Costa Rica for Jan 2016. The main purpose for this trip of 21 days is to scout out places we may consider renting for 3-4 months of our Canadian winters. We are both retired. I worked for Canadian National Railways for the first part of my life, then worked as a Realtor in Vancouver British Columbia. I now run a small Photography business specializing in real estate HD virtual tours.My wife is a retired school teacher and together we enjoy a little golf, kayaking and we bike a lot. We love nature and respect all living creatures as well as our environment, which makes Costa Rica especially enticing for us. Currently we are learning Spanish using The Rossetta Stone learning method.
That is about it in a nutshell. If any of you have any recommendations on where and what to visit while we are there In Jan. your comments will be much appreciated?

Please help.
